Quaint
Seaside Village
The town is known as an artists' Mecca with its world-class
galleries and organized evening art walks. There is always
something exciting happening in this lovely, tropical,
true colonial city. Originally a small pueblo, Puerto
Vallarta has many historical sites such as the town plaza,
the waterfront Malecon, antiquated churches, cobblestone
streets and marketplaces. This once seaside village still
enjoys century-old traditions and a laid-back pace of
life while at the same time offering vacation travelers
all the modern conveniences at the many world-class resorts
that have been developed in recent years. |
Miles
of Beaches
Puerto Vallarta beaches stretch for miles along the
shores of Banderas Bay. In 1998, a Travel and Leisure
Magazine Readers' Survey listed Puerto Vallarta as the
number one beach destination in Latin America. There is
a wide variety of shorelines to explore. From endless
white sandy beaches to mangrove-edged lagoons and tide
pools. Beaches where the jungle meets the sea, coves,
and hidden private places, even beaches that sit between
rugged cliffs. There are city beaches full of sun worshippers
and waterfront open-air cafes that fill at dusk for some
of the most spectacular sunsets on earth. Wilderness beaches
can be found on the far edges of town. |

Fun
for the Whole Family
Puerto Vallarta offers many family-oriented vacation attractions
as well. There are many tours for kids. Take any number of
cruises to see humpback whales wintering in the warm waters
of the Bay of Banderas. Or, take a glass-bottomed boat to
watch tropical fish or swim with dolphins in the wild or in
captivity. If you have never snorkeled before, there are many
tours to tropical beaches where they will teach you how. There
is even a National Marine Park offshore that has coves and
underwater caves to explore if you are an experienced snorkel
or scuba diver. Explore the Marietta Islands where hundreds
of species of wildlife live.
Shopping
Galore
Shopping in Puerto Vallarta is also an adventure. There
is world-class art, hand-crafted furniture, a glass factory,
handmade pottery factories and stores, stunning silver items
of every description, exquisite stained and etched glass pieces,
romantic designer dresses, fine jewelry and leather goods.

World
Class Dining
The rich cultural diversity of Puerto Vallarta is also
reflected in the cuisine that its many restaurants have
to offer. There are literally hundreds of restaurants
in and around Puerto Vallarta where diners can
choose everything from meals prepared by award-winning
chefs at a riverside jazz bistro, to tropical upscale
beachfront settings and rooftop restaurants with panoramic
views. Cuisine includes many fresh fish dishes, great
Mexican restaurants, as well as Italian, Chinese, Middle
Eastern, Greek, American, Bavarian, and Argentine. An
evening on the town in Puerto Vallarta begins
with a great meal in one of the city's many fine restaurants
where musicians serenade as you enjoy the local ambiance.
After your meal, relax with a drink on a romantic terrace
by the sea, or in the hills with a breathtaking view
of city lights, boats on the bay and fireworks. Then
it's time to move on to the real action of the evening. |
Exciting
Nightlife
Music, dancing and live entertainment is found minutes
away downtown, but there is no need to dress up. Just
go as you are, except not in beachwear, to your favorite
kind of atmosphere. You will find sports bars, rowdy
bars for the real party people, refined and relaxed piano
bars and everything in between. Several bars, discos
and live music clubs offer rock 'n' roll, Latin music,
blues and jazz. At some of them, diehard dancers and
late-starters are still kicking up their heels on the
dance floor until the early hours of the morning. |

For
the more sedate, just strolling along the lively Malecon is
a great way to enjoy a balmy evening. Everyone there is 'cruising'
on foot at the ocean's edge, while people watching and savoring
the tastes of Mexican snacks sold at colorful stands along
the way. This is what Mexico is all about...!
